![]() ![]() The prototype allowed players to play puzzles consecutively, and its wordlist was unfiltered. Wardle created the prototype of Wordle in 2013, inspired by the color-matching game Mastermind. Computer algorithms can solve the puzzle with 100% accuracy within 5 of the 6 allowed guesses. Īccording to data collected by The New York Times, the most common first guesses are "adieu", "audio", "stare", "raise", and "arise". Players outside the US have complained that this spelling convention gives American players an unfair advantage, for example in the case of the solution "favor". Wordle uses American spelling, despite the developer being from Wales and using a UK domain name for the game he is a long-time resident of Brooklyn, New York. The smaller word list was chosen by Wardle and his partner by filtering down lists she made by categorizing all five-letter words into those she knew, those she did not know, and those she might have known. Įach daily game uses a word from a randomly ordered list of 2,309 words (out of the approximate 13,000 five-letter words in the English language). The gameplay is also similar to the two-player board game Mastermind-which had a word-guessing variant Word Mastermind -and the game Bulls and Cows, with the exception that Wordle confirms the specific letters that are correct. Ĭonceptually and stylistically, the game is similar to the 1955 pen-and-paper game Jotto and to the game show franchise Lingo. The game also has a dark theme as well as a high-contrast theme for colorblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. Multiple instances of the same letter in a guess, such as the "o"s in "robot", will be colored green or yellow only if the letter also appears multiple times in the answer otherwise, excess repeating letters will be colored gray. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The emoji grid copied by sharing the result from the Wordle game.Įvery day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. ![]() The game was purchased by The New York Times Company in January 2022 for an undisclosed seven-figure sum the game was moved to the Times website in February 2022 and remains free for all players. Many clones and variations of the game were also created, as were versions in languages besides English. The game gained popularity in December 2021 after Wardle added the ability for players to copy their daily results as emoji squares, which were widely shared on Twitter. Wardle created the game to play with his partner, eventually making it public in October 2021. Wordle has a single daily solution, with all players attempting to guess the same word. The mechanics are nearly identical to the 1955 pen-and-paper game Jotto and the television game show franchise Lingo. Players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word, with feedback given for each guess in the form of colored tiles indicating when letters match or occupy the correct position. Wordle is a web-based word game created and developed by Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle. ![]() ![]() ![]() They could be back with the team but Oubre won’t after undergoing surgery. and Aron Baynes - Baynes and Rubio both tested positive for Covid-19. While Gobert had a solid night on the court. Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert (leg) will not play in Saturdays game against the Sacramento Kings. That game was called, and about 90 minutes later, the 2019-20 season was suspended. With 4:01 left to play Thursday night, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert was ejected for a skirmish with Indiana Pacers counterpart Myles Turner. He eventually tested positive for the virus, a result that the Jazz and the NBA learned of just moments before the game against the Thunder was to begin. Gobert was originally dealing with flu-like symptoms on March 11, 2020, when the Jazz were in Oklahoma City for a game. Utah entered the week as the only NBA team to not have a player in protocols this season, a streak that ended when Ingles was added to that list on Tuesday. Gobert becomes the second Jazz player on the protocols list, joining Joe Ingles. But a PCR test, processed overnight, came back Thursday with Gobert positive for the virus again, the team said. The Jazz said Gobert took two rapid tests that day, both of which came back negative. Gobert did not play in Utah's win at Denver on Wednesday night, with the team citing illness as the reason. It is not clear how long he will be sidelined typically, even with shorter return-to-play rules in place now than what had been the case earlier this season, most players who enter the protocols are out for at least a week. The Jazz front office and coaching staffs goal is to turn Gobert into the type of player who consistently commands double-teams to free up room for perimeter shooters like Johnson and Hayward. He has been ruled out for Utah's game Friday in Toronto. Gobert has tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed Thursday on the virus-related protocols list - something that didn't even exist when he tested positive for the virus on March 11, 2020, the night that the NBA shut down for more than four months and ultimately decided to finish its season inside a bubble at Walt Disney World in Florida. This time, the Utah Jazz center might miss just a few days. The first time that Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19, the NBA didn't even have health and safety protocols. It will be wise to work without them.Īs one of the significant efficiency financial ratios, the accounts receivable assesses the business’s ability to use resources and assets. Avoid problematic clients: Clients who need to be pushed continuously to pay up will cause problems to your business and drag the receivable accounts down. They also streamline financial metrics and ensure customers get complete information. Invest in accounting software: These tools will ensure timely invoices, generate payment reminders, and invoices. The terms of payment should be detailed in all invoices, contracts, and customer communications. Clear and consistent communication: Enforcement needs to be done on the policies set to ensure timely payments.By offering a reasonable timeframe for payment, more customers will be attracted, hence increasing sales for the year and the likelihood of being paid in full and on time. It will help in reducing the accounts receivables while improving the rates of the receivable turnover. ![]() Be flexible with discount and payment options: Offer discounts for cash sales or payments made ahead of time.Focus on consistency: Each invoice sent should be accurate, complete, and sent on time. How to Improve the Accounts Receivable Ratio It allows them to estimate the amount to be collected and the rate at which the collection will occur. The accounts receivables ratio helps investors to understand the actual value of receivables and the company’s liquidity. The debtors might default, forcing the company to write off some of these receivables. If non-credit worthy clients are allowed to purchase on credit, the accounts receivable balance showing on the balance sheet is misleading as the amount will never be collected in full. A low ratio could mean the company is facing difficulties trying to collect the accounts receivables from clients. The accounts receivable ratio also denotes the quality of customers. The accounts receivable ratio shows how easily and how often the business collects cash from credit sales. It shows a company’s effectiveness and efficiency in extending credit and collecting from the debtors. It will be prudent to reconsider the credit policies to increase sales for the year and bring about client satisfaction to avoid such scenarios. This can put off clients or lead to missing sales opportunities from clients with low credit levels. If the accounts receivable ratio is too high, it could mean the business mostly operates on a cash basis or the business’s credit policies are too strict. Therefore, the ratio may not be the most accurate measure of your company’s credit effectiveness. The ratio is mainly based on an average, which can easily be skewed by accounts that pay too slowly or quickly. It is more so for bad customer accounts that are past due. It cannot help a company identify accounts that need extra review. It could be due to company errors, such as a product that needs to be replaced because of malfunctioning or shipping errors. Similarly, a low ratio can be a result lack of satisfaction on the customer’s side. If the customer to pay is struggling with their debts, they may not be the right customers. The company may be very lenient with extending credit. A low accounts receivable ratio could also mean the business collection policies are not sufficient. The company deals with creditworthy customers, meaning no bad debts to be written off. The clients are paying off debts on time, creating room for future credit purchases. A business receives payment for debts, increasing the business cash flow used to pay its debts, such as payroll promptly. A high receivable ratio means the company’s collection process is effective. The average accounts receivable turnover in days would be 365 / 4 or 89 days. The company with a turnover receivable of 4 is likely to get all its debts paid, hence less likely to suffer bad debts. A Company has net credit sales worth $200000 and $50000 worth of average accounts receivables.Receivable Turnover Ratio FormulaĬalculating the accounts receivable is done by taking the net credit sales, which is usually found on the company’s income statement, and dividing it by the average accounts receivables for a given period.Īccounts Receivable Turnover Ratio = Net Credit Sales / Average Accounts Receivable Example The receivable turnover ratio or accounts receivable turnover ratio is among of activity ratios used to assess the ability of the business to convert accounts receivable into cash within a financial year. ![]() ![]() The simplest possible step-down circuit is a resistive divider. Step-down level shifters A simple resistive downshifter. Will it be a step-up, a step-down, or do you need a bi-directional level shifter? If you decide not to use a dedicated part or a 5V tolerant gate in your design, here are a few of the many alternatives. There are many choices available to you including a whole host of dedicated level shifter devices such as these ones from TI, but aside from personal preference some of them will be dictated by your application. If your 3.3V device inputs are not 5V tolerant and your 5V inputs lack 3.3V compatible thresholds then sadly you won’t be able to interface them across voltage levels without a shifter circuit. If there is a moral to this story it is to always read the datasheet carefully, and use the TTL-compatible parts such as in this case 74HCT, when they are available. As you might expect it failed to work, and of course I wasted time looking everywhere else but my defective choice of part. Some CMOS ICs such as the 74HC4053 analogue switch I used in a Raspberry Pi project don’t quite follow this standard and will work from a 3.3V TTL output, so I was lulled into a false sense of security and reached for another 74HC part to connect to my Raspberry Pi with a new design. CMOS logic defines its logic thresholds as a percentage of supply voltage, which with a 5V supply puts the logic 1 threshold of 70% well above the 3.3V logic 1. When directly driving logic you’d normally use at 5V from a 3.3V output there is one cautionary tale of which to take heed, a personal confession of an electronic failure. CMOS And TTL: A Level Shifting Cautionary Tale Comparison of TTL and CMOS logic thresholds with comparison to 3.3V output. For example the 74LVC series contains a range of 5V tolerant 3.3V versions of many 74-series ICs. Many devices are designed to be 5V tolerant, and you might be lucky enough to find that your circuit could use one and avoid the extra circuitry. But before reaching for that shifter it’s worth taking a look at the detailed specifications of your 3.3V input. In the other direction, driving a 3.3V input from a 5V output you might expect that a level shifting circuit would be required, and in many cases you would be right. For example 3.3V TTL logic shares the 0.8V and 2V thresholds for logic 0 and logic 1 transitions with 5V TTL logic, so a 3.3V TTL output can drive a 5V TTL input without any extra hardware required. And you are not likely to encounter a logic input that might demand so much current that it would damage your output (If you do, use a buffer!). If you are lucky the logic voltage ranges of the two devices may even coincide. If the 3.3V part is an output and the 5V one an input, the lower voltage part can hardly damage the higher voltage one with overvoltage. It might seem odd to start a treatise on level shifting this way, but the first question for the designer when looking at making a 3.3V part talk to a 5V part should be this: Do I even need a level shifter? Some means of managing the transition between voltages is required, so we’re going to take a look at the world of level shifters, the circuits we use when interfacing these different voltage logic families. ![]() ![]() When these different families need to coexist as for example when interfacing to the current crop of microcontroller boards, care has to be taken to avoid damage to your silicon. In recent decades the demands of higher speed and lower power have given us successive families of lower voltage devices, and we will now commonly also encounter 3.3V or even sometimes lower voltage devices. This happy state of never encountering anything but 5V logic as a hobbyist has not persisted. If you were a keen reader of electronic text books you might have read about different voltage levels tolerated by 4000 series CMOS gates, but the chances are even with them you’d have still used the familiar 5 volts. Above 2V but usually pretty close to 5V is a logic 1, below 0.8V is a logic 0. If your introduction to digital electronics came more years ago than you’d care to mention, the chances are you did so with 5V TTL logic. ![]() ![]() ![]() Timings: 9:00 am to 10:00 pm (Monday- Thursday, Sunday), 9:00 am to 11:00 pm (Friday- Saturday) 7. This series also shows a clear trough in April. Accordingly, the committee also considered the employment measure from the BLS household survey, which excludes individuals who are paid but on furlough. Workers on paid furlough, who became more numerous during the pandemic, thus resulted in an overcount of people working. In the survey, individuals who are paid but not at work are counted as employed, even though they are not in fact working or producing. However, the committee recognized that this survey was affected by special circumstances associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. This series reached a clear trough in April before rebounding strongly the next few months and then settling into a more gradual rise. On the employment side, the committee normally views the payroll employment measure produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which is based on a large survey of employers, as the most reliable comprehensive estimate of employment. In the current case, all of those indicators point clearly to April 2020 as the month of the trough. In determining the date of a monthly peak or trough, the committee considers a number of indicators of employment and production. The basis for this decision was the length and strength of the recovery to date. The committee decided that any future downturn of the economy would be a new recession and not a continuation of the recession associated with the February 2020 peak. Economic activity is typically below normal in the early stages of an expansion, and it sometimes remains so well into the expansion. An expansion is a period of rising economic activity spread across the economy, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales. In determining that a trough occurred in April 2020, the committee did not conclude that the economy has returned to operating at normal capacity. ![]() Because the most recent trough was in April 2020, the last month of the recession was April 2020, and May 2020 was the first month of the subsequent expansion. In the NBER’s convention for measuring the duration of a recession, the first month of the recession is the month following the peak and the last month is the month of the trough. The NBER chronology does not identify the precise moment that the economy entered a recession or expansion. The recession lasted two months, which makes it the shortest US recession on record. The previous peak in economic activity occurred in February 2020. The committee has determined that a trough in monthly economic activity occurred in the US economy in April 2020.
